Heavy rain lashed Puducherry on Sunday (October 25, 2026), inundating low-lying neighbourhoods, flooding houses and disrupting normal life across the city.
Puducherry recorded 9.7 cm of rainfall between 5.30 p.m. on Saturday (October 24) and 8.30 a.m. on Sunday. Rainwater surged through major stormwater drains including the Grand Canal and Uppanar.
Waterlogging was reported in Boomianpet, Krishna Nagar and Venkata Nagar, with rainwater entering houses in some localities. The Indira Gandhi Square, Rajiv Gandhi Square and Sivaji statue junctions on the East Coast Road were inundated, slowing vehicular movement.

Motorists struggled to negotiate flooded stretches as rains continued across the city. Many residents stayed indoors, while vendors at the Sunday Market on Mahatma Gandhi Road struggled to set up stalls, affecting business.
Meanwhile, distant cautionary signal No. 1 was hoisted at Puducherry port. The Department of Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare has advised Puducherry fishermen not to venture into the sea until October 27 in view of the likelihood of strong winds over the Bay of Bengal.
