GS Global (001250.KS) is entering the carbon credit business in earnest through a partnership with Hooxi Partners, a company specializing in carbon emission credits. The trading house plans to turn greenhouse gas reductions achieved through its existing eco-friendly operations into assets, and to expand into credit trading and brokerage by combining its global network and trading capabilities.
GS Global said on the 20th that it had made an equity investment in Hooxi Partners and established a foundation for strategic cooperation.
The investment is a pre-emptive move ahead of South Korea's fourth emissions trading scheme, which runs from this year through 2030. With companies facing heavier burdens in securing credits and greater price volatility as the total emissions cap shrinks, paid allocations expand and global carbon regulations tighten, GS Global aims to develop carbon credits into a new growth engine. The company said it would build capabilities in developing carbon credit methodologies and in identifying and operating reduction projects, strengthening the basis for commercializing carbon assets over the medium to long term.
Hooxi Partners, founded in 2021, is a climate technology company that handles the entire process from developing carbon credit methodologies to identifying and operating reduction projects, securing Korean Offset Credits (KOCs) and forward trading. It has drawn market attention for its focus on "program-based reduction projects" in the transport sector, which bundle multiple individual projects under single management to efficiently generate reduction credits from the shift to electric vehicles. Its revenue jumped from 200 million won in 2024 to 3.2 billion won in 2025, and it is projected to post revenue of 7.8 billion won and net profit of 3.3 billion won this year.
GS Global aims to maximize synergy with its existing eco-friendly businesses following the equity investment. The company plans to identify additional greenhouse gas reduction projects in areas including the conversion of internal combustion engine vehicles to electric buses, solar and other renewable energy, biomass and resource recycling, then turn those reductions into KOC assets and establish a revenue model supplying them to buyers at home and abroad.
The company is also accelerating its push into overseas markets. GS Global plans to win more carbon reduction project orders from overseas clients by adding Hooxi Partners' reduction expertise to its existing network of steel, energy and industrial goods customers abroad.
"This investment is intended to enter the expanding carbon credit market pre-emptively and secure a new area of growth," a GS Global official said. "Through cooperation with Hooxi Partners, we will strengthen our capabilities in securing and trading credits and continue to broaden the scope of our partnership into carbon reduction projects at home and abroad."
