A Cayman crown counsel has warned sex offenders they will face the full force of the law after a convicted rapist received a lengthy sentence for a violent attack on a woman.
Ben Brown, of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, said that the 16-year jail term handed down to Adrian Gordon, 36, last week underlined the criminal justice system’s commitment to the protection of women.
Brown was speaking after Gordon was jailed by Justice Cheryll Richards, KC, on 9 Oct. for the rape of a woman in George Town in October 2024. He was further convicted of assault causing actual bodily harm.
“This was an exceptionally serious and violent sexual offence, which the sentencing judge recognised as an extreme example of its kind,” Brown said.

“It sends a clear message that those who commit rape and serious sexual violence in the Cayman Islands can expect to be held accountable.”

Gordon, who denied the charges, was earlier found guilty by a Grand Court Jury.
Victim met attacker at bar
The court heard that Gordon had met the woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, at a bar and later offered to drive her home.
The woman said her landlord did not allow male visitors, but Gordon grabbed her hair, forced his way into her home and punched her in the face.
The woman fought back and begged him to stop, but Gordon ignored her pleas and raped her.
She broke free and fled the apartment naked, but Gordon, also naked, chased after her, battered her again and tried to drag her by her hair back into the property.
Neighbours testified they heard the woman scream, “Please help me. Don’t let him kill me.”
Police arrived on the scene a few minutes later and arrested Gordon.
‘Extensive’ injuries
Dr Karina Palmer-Forde, who treated the woman for her injuries said they were extensive and included a broken nose, severe internal damage and widespread bruising all over her body.
A Victim Impact Report outlined the victim suffered ongoing panic attacks, had difficulty sleeping, suffered distress and panic and continued to experience persistent pain.
Brown said “the gravity of Gordon’s offending and the devastating impact crimes of this nature have upon victims” was reflected in the sentence imposed.
He added, “In particular, tribute should be paid to the victim who demonstrated immense courage in coming forward and giving evidence.”
Additional ordeal
Brown highlighted, “By denying his offending, Gordon put her through the additional ordeal of having to relieve these traumatic events before a jury.
“No sentence can undo what she endured, but it is hoped this outcome provides her with some comfort in knowing that Gordon has been brought to justice.
“The Office of the DPP encourages anyone who has experienced sexual violence to come forward and report it.”
