Three families in Kadamtala panchayat of North Tripura have alleged that land they purchased nearly 46 years ago was sold again by its original owner, Rani Malakar, triggering multiple legal disputes and allegations of irregularities in the issuance of land deeds and records.
According to the complainants, Rabindra Das, Yasin Ali and Chandan Malakar had purchased four, 16 and six sataks of land, respectively, nearly 46 years ago. They said they had received deeds for the residential properties at the time, but records, or parchas, could not be issued in their names because the land had been mortgaged with a bank.
The complainants alleged that the situation remained unresolved for years and that the death of a subsequent owner further complicated the process of obtaining the land records.
Taking advantage of the circumstances, Malakar allegedly sold the same plots again to Faruk Ahmed, son of Mokaddas Ali, and Prabhat Malakar for several lakh rupees, according to the three families.
After learning about the alleged resale of the properties, Das, Ali and Malakar approached the Kadamtala tehsildar and filed cases before the Dharmanagar court, they claimed.
The complainants have questioned how Kadamtala tehsildar Kalyan Shuklabaidya allegedly issued fresh deeds and parchas for the disputed land despite cases being pending over the properties. They have also alleged financial transactions involving the official, though the allegations have not been independently verified.
Meanwhile, Ahmed and Prabhat Malakar have allegedly obtained land records and deeds in their names and are claiming ownership of the properties, the complainants said.
The three families further alleged that they had been threatened with eviction and death threats by the new claimants, despite having lived on the land for several decades.
The families said they had spent their own money to purchase the properties and were now facing uncertainty over their continued occupation of the houses. They have sought intervention from the administration, elected representatives and the Chief Minister, urging authorities to ensure justice.
Multiple cases relating to the dispute are pending before Kadamtala police station and the Dharmanagar court, according to the complainants.
The allegations against the land officials and the persons claiming ownership could not be independently verified. The responses of Rani Malakar, Faruk Ahmed, Prabhat Malakar and tehsildar Kalyan Shuklabaidya were not immediately available.
