The Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has inspected the ongoing construction of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks Phase II, urging contractors to maintain quality standards and deliver the project on schedule.
The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.
Anele said Shaibu conducted an unscheduled inspection of the project on Friday to assess construction progress, workmanship and compliance with approved specifications.
She said the inspection reflected the COAS’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure development and addressing accommodation challenges facing Nigerian Army personnel and their families.
During the visit, Shaibu inspected residential blocks, internal roads, water reticulation systems and other facilities designed to provide a conducive living environment for troops and their families.
He also received briefings from project engineers and consultants on the level of work completed, implementation challenges and expected completion timelines.
The Army Chief expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded and charged the contractors to sustain the pace of work without compromising construction quality.
He stressed that military infrastructure projects must deliver lasting value and meet the welfare needs of personnel and their families.
According to him, the barracks, named after President Bola Tinubu, represent part of the Nigerian Army’s efforts to bridge accommodation gaps, improve living conditions and boost troop morale.
Shaibu reaffirmed his commitment to providing modern residential facilities and welfare infrastructure as part of his Soldier First philosophy.
He said improved welfare remained central to building a motivated, professional, resilient and combat-ready Army capable of discharging its constitutional responsibilities.
The COAS also pledged sustained monitoring of infrastructure projects across Army formations and barracks to ensure quality delivery, transparency, accountability and value for money.
He said regular and unscheduled inspections would continue to ensure that projects met approved standards and delivered the intended benefits to personnel.
