After a big mistake in the final moments of overtime, the Washington Commanders had to settle for a tie against the New York Giants.
Daniels bizarrely let the clock run out in overtime by getting tackled in bounds during a pass play, even though the Commanders had no timeouts remaining.
This decision cost the Commanders a chance at an all-important division win against their NFC East rivals who are top of the division.
Jayden Daniels gives vague non-answer over time management issue
When a reporter asked Jayden Daniels about whether anyone in the Washington Commanders’ huddle mentioned the importance of not letting the clock run out due to their lack of timeouts, the former LSU quarterback gave a vague response.
Daniels didn’t discuss any conversation about stopping the clock and suggested that the Commanders had to be ‘better’ going forward.
“Just gotta be better, just gotta be better.”
Many fans and analysts have lambasted Daniels for his decision to carry the ball with seconds remaining, rather than throwing the ball forward to stop the clock.
After Cam Skattebo’s fumble in the final minutes of overtime gave the Commanders a golden opportunity to win the game, the Commanders’ failure to acknowledge the clock cost them massively.
While the result could have been worse, the Commanders will feel frustrated that they didn’t capitalise on the chance to win the game.
Daniels made his return against the Giants after recovering from a dislocated elbow that he suffered in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys.
Making a game-winning pass in overtime would have been an excellent way to mark his return. Instead, his poor decision-making has left a large portion of the fanbase frustrated.
