Christina Applegate returned to “MeSsy,” the podcast she co-hosts with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, with a revelation that overturns the medical explanation she had been living with for the past five years. The actress shared that her doctors recently told her she does not have multiple sclerosis, despite having received that diagnosis in 2021.
Far from bringing the relief one might expect, the news had a profound emotional impact on the Dead to Me star. Her physical challenges persist: she needs a wheelchair in certain situations, continues to have mobility issues, and says her symptoms have not gone away. Now, specialists will need to continue investigating the cause of her condition.
Christina Applegate: “I’m Back to Square One”
Applegate explained that a doctor entered her room and told her she did not have multiple sclerosis. While those around her received the news with relief, she had a different reaction.
The actress immediately understood that the new information did not solve the problems she had been facing for years. She still had the same physical difficulties, but now she had lost the explanation that had given meaning to much of her medical journey.
“I was back to square one,” she summarized.
Applegate also explained that she still needs a wheelchair to attend certain medical appointments. Sometimes she cannot walk the distance from the car to the doctor’s office.
That’s why the new evaluation didn’t result in a sudden improvement. “Nothing magical happened,” she explained.
The actress also acknowledged that the news took an emotional toll and that she fell into a deep depression. For years, she had spoken publicly about multiple sclerosis and had become one of the most visible celebrities in sharing what it was like to live with the disease.
A New Medical Journey After Five Years
Applegate publicly announced her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in August 2021, after she began experiencing neurological problems and difficulty walking. Over time, she spoke openly about the pain, fatigue, and mobility issues that had changed her life and affected her career.
In February 2026, the actress had revealed that she spent much of her time in bed due to her health issues. She also explained that even everyday activities, such as taking her daughter to school, had become especially meaningful moments for her.
Now, the situation is particularly difficult for Applegate because for years she had built a significant part of her public life around her experience with multiple sclerosis.
Christina Applegate’s Return to “MeSsy”
Her return to the podcast also marks Applegate’s return to a space where, for years, she spoke candidly about her health alongside Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who also lives with multiple sclerosis.
“MeSsy” became precisely one of the places where both women shared their experiences with the disease, their mobility challenges, and the changes they had had to make in their daily lives
For Applegate, finding out now that her doctors no longer believe she has multiple sclerosis presents a contradiction that is particularly difficult to come to terms with: the disease has a new name, but the physical problems remain.
The actress herself summed it up with a phrase that reflects her confusion: “The same game with a different name.”
