Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL) Chairman and Independent Director Tariq Kirmani has resigned from the company’s board on health grounds, effective October 9, 2026.
In a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on October 12, PRL said Kirmani had stepped down as both chairman and director.
Kirmani was appointed chairman in October 2023, when PRL elected its board for the 2023 to 2026 term. He brought more than five decades of experience in the corporate sector, including senior roles at multinational and state-owned companies.
Kirmani began his career at Caltex, now Chevron Pakistan, in 1969, working in senior management roles across the United States, UAE and Australia. He joined Pakistan State Oil in 1999 and became its chief executive in 2001, before heading Pakistan International Airlines in 2005.
Established in 1960, PRL is a subsidiary of Pakistan State Oil and operates a refinery at Korangi Creek in Karachi, with a crude oil processing capacity of approximately 50,000 barrels per day. The company is pursuing a Refinery Expansion and Upgrade Project aimed at doubling its capacity to 100,000 barrels per day and enabling the production of cleaner fuels.
