Former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike has taken to social media to criticise some state governors for allegedly mismanaging public funds, calling Nigeria an “embezzlement ground”.
Emenike shared his frustration on Instagram, accusing some governors of lacking clear plans for their states and instead focusing on diverting public funds.
He also criticised security personnel, saying they still support political office holders even though they face economic hardship themselves.
“The arrogance and confidence in some of these governors make me sick, and a lot of them don’t have good plans for the future of their state, zero plans; e.g., just embezzle money, and una police and army go still follow them with empty stomachs, jokers.
“Nigeria is finished and gone. We thought it was a country when we played, not knowing that it is an embezzlement ground. Embezzlement group of companies,” he wrote.
The former international did not name any governor in his post.
Emenike played for Nigeria between 2011 and 2015. He made his international debut in February 2011 before announcing his retirement from the national team in October 2015. During his time with the Super Eagles, he scored nine goals in 37 appearances.
He was part of the Nigerian squad that lifted the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, securing the country’s third continental title.
