The Saudi Pro League (SPL) has postponed three fixtures, including Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr match against Al Ahli, following an escalation in fighting between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthis.
According to reports, the league rescheduled the matches for “logistical considerations, taking into account the mandatory minimum rest period between matches.”
The fixtures between league leaders Al Hilal and Al Riyadh, and Al Ittihad and Al Shabab, have been moved to December 19. Meanwhile, Al Ahli’s clash against Al Nassr will now take place on March 6, 2027.
The SPL confirmed that all other Matchweek 9 fixtures will proceed as originally scheduled.
The postponements came after Al Nassr’s AFC Champions League match against Uzbekistan’s Neftchi Fergana in Riyadh was delayed by an hour. The delay followed an announcement by the Saudi-led coalition that it had intercepted a missile fired by the Houthis toward the Saudi capital.
The latest escalation has raised security concerns across the kingdom, with missile strikes reportedly targeting airports and energy facilities.
According to reports, Houthi attacks on Riyadh’s international airport over the weekend killed 13 people and forced a suspension of operations, marking the deadliest attack of its kind since 2015.
The developments have disrupted the domestic football schedule as Saudi Arabia faces renewed security challenges.
