The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has hailed Red Arrows for qualifying to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup after eliminating Kaizer Chiefs.
Red Arrows won the first leg 1-0 in Ndola but lost 1-0 in the return leg in South Africa on Friday night before securing a 3-2 victory on penalties to advance.
FAZ President Keith Mweemba said the qualification is an important step for Zambian club football as the country seeks to regain its standing in continental competitions.
“On behalf of my executive and the entire football family, I wish to congratulate Red Arrows on this achievement. Qualifying for the group stage is a proud moment for the club and Zambian football,” Mweemba said.
He said Zambia needs to build on this progress to regain the two additional slots lost during the 2022/2023 season.
“Our ambition must be to see Zambian clubs competing consistently at this level and restoring the country’s representation to four slots,” Mweemba said.
Mweemba urged Red Arrows management and sponsors to provide necessary support for adequate preparations ahead of the group stage and assured the club of FAZ’s support.
