By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Prime Minister John Briceño’s strong words in support of Taiwan are making news across Asia.
The Taipei Times has published his exclusive interview with Taiwan’s Central News Agency, conducted in Bangkok on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings.
In the interview, Briceño called for deeper cooperation with Taiwan through investment, technology exchanges and people to people ties.
He also made clear that China’s sanctions on Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca will not shake Belize’s position. Briceño described the sanctions as unreasonable, unnecessary, wrong and illegal, and said they would only strengthen Belize’s resolve to stand with Taiwan.
He went further, arguing that Taiwan’s achievements in technology, artificial intelligence, health care, education and climate research deserve recognition by the United Nations and other international organizations.
The coverage comes as Belize’s relationship with Taiwan draws increased global attention following Beijing’s sanctions earlier this week.
