Bo Nix has come under some serious scrutiny on the back of Thursday night’s victory over the Seattle Seahawks.
On the face of it, a victory against the reigning Super Bowl champions is not something to be scoffed at but the quarterback’s performance in Denver left a lot to be desired. After the game, Ryan Fitzpatrick hit out at Nix’s performance describing it as an insult to the position.
Nix was unable to throw for a single touchdown in the game at Mile High and ended the game with just over 100 throwing yards. The Broncos secured just two first downs in the second half and failed to score at all in the second period of the game.
With a lot of scrutiny being put on Nix and his performance against Seattle, the 26-year-old has spoken out after the game to share what he is not getting about the Broncos’ offence.
Why Bo Nix was left confused by his Denver Broncos offence
The verdicts on Nix following the game on Thursday have been fairly brutal with his long-term future now coming under scrutiny in Denver. He may not have helped his case following the victory against Seattle when he spoke to the media, either.
“I thought I saw the field really well, especially early, when we were given opportunities to be aggressive. As the game went on, it felt like just third downs were the key. Every once in a while, we had an opportunity to throw it deep again, and they were in a soft Cover 2 shell, covered deep. We had outlets for the 10 yards of space,” said Nix.
“I don’t understand why we can’t really push the ball vertically right now, but defences are just sitting back there hanging out. We’re just going to keep running the football. Hopefully, we’re just going to find ways to get more out of it.”
The Broncos’ leading receiver on Thursday night was RJ Harvey with a mere 31 receiving yards. A longest reception of just 16 yards probably summed up the Broncos’ throwing game against a stern Seahawks defence.
There is no doubt that the Broncos were facing one of the top defences in the league but Nix was simply unable to find any answer throughout the game against Mike Macdonald’s outfit. The reason the Broncos were able to escape with the victory is that Sam Darnold somehow managed to offer an even worse performance.
