Arsenal are reportedly preparing to pursue another Atletico Madrid star when the transfer window reopens in January, having failed to sign Julian Alvarez during the summer window.
The Gunners already have a strong squad, but they remain keen to strengthen their options and have several players on their radar ahead of January. The upcoming window could also be significant for some members of their current squad, particularly those who have struggled for regular playing time, including Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi.
According to Team Talk, Arsenal are interested in signing Alex Baena from Atletico Madrid and could make their move before the end of the season.
Arsenal consider January move for Baena
If the club decide to proceed with their interest, they could approach Atletico Madrid during the January transfer window. However, securing an agreement may prove challenging, particularly after Arsenal failed to persuade the Spanish club to part with Alvarez during the previous transfer window.
Arsenal continue to monitor Alvarez, but they understand that Atletico Madrid will not sell him in January. As a result, their attention has reportedly shifted towards Baena, whom they would like to bring into their squad if the opportunity arises.
The potential move would give Arsenal another option as they look to improve their attacking strength. Their interest also suggests that the club are continuing to assess alternatives rather than relying solely on their pursuit of Alvarez.

Atletico Madrid hold the key to a potential deal
Although Baena could be interested in joining Arsenal, the decision will not rest with the player alone. The Gunners would need to convince Atletico Madrid to approve his departure before any transfer could be completed.
Arsenal may therefore face a difficult task if they decide to test Atletico Madrid’s resolve in January. The Spanish club’s willingness to negotiate would be a crucial factor in determining whether the proposed move progresses beyond initial interest.
For the Gunners, the coming transfer window could provide an opportunity to reinforce their squad while exploring options in the transfer market. Baena has emerged as a potential target, but much will depend on Arsenal’s approach and Atletico Madrid’s response.
