A cookware comparison video has South Africans rethinking their kitchen budgets. The Facebook reel, posted by Backroom Aesthetics on 15 October 2026, placed PEP Home and Woolworths non-stick pots side by side to see how much of a difference a price gap actually makes. Both ranges share a surprisingly similar profile. Each features a lightweight aluminium body, a ceramic non-stick interior, brass-toned handles, and full compatibility with gas, electric and induction cooktops, and ovens. On paper, they look like close cousins.
Where Woolworths parts ways with PEP Home
The key distinction Woolworths draws with its Serious Cook Oslo range is a "reinforced" ceramic coating, which the retailer says improves surface durability over time. Whether that claim holds up in a real kitchen is another question entirely, and it is one the video puts squarely to viewers. The numbers are hard to ignore. A complete four-piece set from PEP Home costs R1,700, while the comparable Woolworths Oslo collection is priced at R3,746.
That is more than double the spend for what the review suggests are very similar everyday cooking results. The demand for a wider comparison reflects how seriously South African shoppers are approaching kitchenware decisions right now. Budget stores like Checkers and Mr Price Home are clearly on people's radar, and a follow-up video putting all four brands head-to-head would likely draw an even bigger crowd.
