“The year has flown by!” Jenny, President of the Association for Protection of Animals Algarve (APAA), is right.
2026 has been a busy one.
“We’ve tried to please our membership with ‘Pop-Up’ Shops, luncheon events at Jackie’s and a sumptuous buffet luncheon at the Hotel Aquas! And, more to come…” APAA’s small but friendly team are always looking out for a new way to gain interest in their worthy cause. “It’s all about paws, claws and our furry-canine-feline-friends!”
Nearly all of their money is raised for their most worthy of causes, SNIP – Spaying & Neutering Programme, which includes a variety of treatments of the veterinary kind for their colossal-cat-colonies dotted around the Algarve and beyond! The abandoned canines and their recovery, to finding them a good foster-home or that forever-home much sought after by us all.
“In years gone by, APAA had a shelter, and it was always overworked, overpopulated, and understaffed. So, a lot of our money also goes to help shelters and private animal charities in need. Also, of course, the community at large!” Their motto ‘Here to Help’ is a good one and a promise or assurance that they will do whatever they can when they can.
“We do know that there are kind-hearted people who try and help, and we are happy that they are out there! The problem is the cost, sometimes turning to a veterinary, which is out-of-pocket for a lot of people. We understand that probably more people would help if they knew some assistance would be available!” Their membership has a broad spectrum of talented helpers: graphic artists/designers, fixers, collectors, all wanting to lend a hand where needed.
