Magnus Kirt: The Comeback

Kai Art Center, Tallinn

Monday, 12 October, from 6pm
Magnus Kirt: The Comeback opening is introduced by director Steiv Silm and followed by a conversation between Silm and Magnus Kirt himself. The documentary follows Estonia’s javelin thrower from a childhood shaped by his father’s belief that hard work always beats talent, through world number one rankings, to the moment at the World Championships in Doha when his shoulder dislocates on the fifth attempt with one throw still to go. What follows is not your classic comeback story. It features a harsh reality: surgeries, new injuries, an Olympic dream receding and a man who keeps working hard, even when the reward stops coming. The film really questions what a comeback actually means when there is no returning to who you were.

Banff Mountain Film Festival 2026

Apollo Kino Solaris, Tallinn

From Wednesday, 14 October to Thursday, 15 October
Banff Mountain Film Festival returns to Estonia for its fifth year with a full evening of the world’s best mountain films — ground-breaking expeditions, inspirational athletes and breathtaking footage. This year’s programme brings five films spanning ice climbing in Baffin Island, an ultra-endurance story, mountain biking in the wild, a short meditative piece on movement and landscape and the latest entry in the legendary Reel Rock series. A Baffin Vacation: Love on Ice (Canada, 26 min), The Finisher (USA, 47 min), Mandala (France, 6 min), One Step Ahead (Canada, 14 min), and Reel Rock: Riders on the Storm (USA, 28 min) make up the lineup. All films are in their original language with Estonian and English subtitles.

Organ Night

Charles’s Church, Tallinn

Friday 16 October, from 8pm
Night of Organ Music takes place in Estonia’s largest church organ — a Walcker instrument — and the programme is built around pieces that were made for exactly this kind of space. Bach’s Toccata in D minor, Orff’s O Fortuna from Carmina Burana, Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King, Böllmann’s Suite Gothique, and an arrangement of Schubert’s Erlkönig for violin and cello sit alongside other works in an evening that moves between the thunderous and the intricate with equal authority. The ensemble — Ilona Birgele (organ), Yuri Savkin (violin), Irina Vylegzhanina (cello) and Virdžīnija Laube-Vītiņa (percussion) — performs from the gallery beside the organ, where proximity to the instrument is essential for the kind of precise, cohesive playing the acoustics of a church this size demand. Bespoke lighting design shapes the atmosphere throughout. The concert runs approximately one hour and twenty minutes.

MängudeÖÖ 2026

T1 Venue & Cinamon Cinema, Tallinn

From Saturday, 17 October, to Sunday, 18 October
MängudeÖÖ, Estonia’s legendary gaming night, returns with a packed programme for gamers and curious visitors. Expect live entertainment, real rally cars and virtual driving experiences, live recordings of popular Estonian podcasts and a GeoGuessr esports tournament putting the country’s geography experts to the test. There will also be a chance to revisit classic rally games such as Colin McRae Rally 2000 and Richard Burns Rally. For the first time, the event will host a separate games industry conference, with talks and workshops on game development and marketing.

Screening: Your Name

Kai Art Center, Tallinn

Sunday, 18 October from 2pm
To mark its 10th anniversary, Makoto Shinkai’s internationally acclaimed anime Your Name (Kimi no Na wa) returns to cinemas. Released in 2016, the film became one of Japan’s biggest box-office hits, blending romance, drama and animation into a story about connection, fate and identity. Mitsuha, a girl living in a small mountain town, dreams of escaping to Tokyo, while Taki, a boy in the capital, finds himself dreaming that he is a girl living somewhere he has never visited. As the two begin mysteriously switching bodies, they set out to understand what connects them and whether their lives might somehow cross. The film is screened in Japanese with Estonian subtitles.
