Norwegian geophysical services specialist Electromagnetic Geoservices (EMGS) has secured a letter of award from Pakistan’s Mari Energies for controlled-source electromagnetic surveys across multiple offshore exploration blocks.
The Oslo-based company said the programme would combine CSEM-derived resistivity information with seismic and geological data to improve prospect evaluation, reduce exploration uncertainty and support decisions on future drilling targets. The survey is expected to take place in the first quarter of 2027.
The agreement follows meetings between senior EMGS representatives, Mari Energies’ management and technical teams, and the Pakistani company’s offshore joint-venture partners, including Turkish Petroleum.
Mari Energies said it intends to use electromagnetic technology to evaluate, rank and de-risk exploration prospects as it seeks to unlock Pakistan’s largely unexplored offshore hydrocarbon potential.
In May, the country finalised agreements covering 23 offshore exploration blocks spanning approximately 54,600 sq km in the Indus and Makran basins, with initial investment commitments of $82m.
Mari Energies emerged as the largest participant in the licensing round, securing operatorship of 18 blocks and non-operating interests in another five.
