The Bida Local Government Council in Niger State has shut down ice cream production facilities over poor hygiene and failure to obtain the required licences and registration numbers from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
The council’s Chief Press Secretary, Aliyu B. Umar, disclosed this in a statement shared on Facebook on Thursday, following an inspection by the council’s environmental departments.
According to the statement, the inspection uncovered several sanitary violations, including the presence of flies in ice cream mixtures. The products were also found without labels indicating their contents and sources.

The council said laboratory tests on substances used in producing the ice cream reportedly showed that they had no nutritional value and contained materials that could pose health risks to consumers.
It added that production was suspended after the factory managers admitted that they did not have the required operating licences and NAFDAC registration numbers.
The council also confiscated production equipment and other materials from the affected facilities as part of the enforcement exercise.
