Last week, just minutes before I was scheduled to be on a Zoom call with Kendall Jenner, I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the mirror. I was transfixed by one of the many new grey hairs that seemed to have just popped up and wouldn’t settle into my slicked-back ponytail, no matter how much gel I applied. It actually made me late to our strict call time – and after apologising, I confessed what had kept me.
“I have some greys that have been multiplying rapidly, and while I’m covering them up right now, one day I’m not going to be able to,” Jenner says. It’s all a part of her beauty philosophy when it comes to ageing: “I love to see a woman with her crow’s feet or a laugh line. Some of the most beautiful women in the world have just aged gracefully.”
For the model – who has been open about her struggles with everything from acne to curbing anxiety with positive self-talk – a good skincare routine goes hand in hand with both her mental health and the beauty of ageing. “I’m looking to keep my skin as youthful as possible by using certain products that keep it hydrated and plump,” she says, adding that K-beauty brand Anua’s PDRN Hyaluronic Acid 100 Moisturizing Cream has become a foundational part of that experience (Jenner was announced as the face of the brand earlier this year). “I’m down for all the new discoveries around anti-ageing, but it’s always going to be on the natural side for me. I love seeing a woman age gracefully. Just letting her skin do its thing,” she adds.
She notes, however, that her skin is getting some support by way of the PDRN line. PDRN, or polydeoxyribonucleotide, is the latest (scientifically proven!) ingredient to come out of Korea’s incredible beauty scene. In a previous story about the ingredient, board-certified facial plastic surgeon Babak Azizzadeh told Vogue: “In clinical and experimental settings, it is believed to work by activating adenosine A2A receptors – helping calm inflammation, stimulate new blood vessel formation, and support the skin’s natural processes of healing and collagen renewal.”
“Although I don’t struggle with my acne as much as I used to, I’m still conscious of using products that feel like they won’t break me out while hydrating,” says Jenner, adding that she hasn’t had any sort of reaction while using Anua. “I like the glowy, anti-ageing component of these products.”
In the pursuit of that glow, the model shares a controversial opinion: she’s pro-plane skin care. Well, sort of. “I am super pro-face mask at the end of a flight, for sure,” she tells me. “I think, why not? It makes me feel way more hydrated, so why not?”
