DeFi Development Corp. said on October 12 that its treasury had increased by approximately 22,070 SOL and SOL equivalents over the preceding week. The Nasdaq-listed company reported total holdings of approximately 2,586,282, continuing its strategy of accumulating exposure to Solana.
The update puts treasury growth at approximately 12% since its August 12 earnings report. That comparison covers roughly two months, not the latest week alone. The company attributes its accumulation to purchases and organic growth; it does not identify the entire weekly increase as tokens bought in the open market.
More tokens and more financing capacity
The issuer also pointed to a recently established $300 million at-the-market offering program for CHAD, its variable-rate perpetual preferred stock. A program's maximum size is not cash already raised, and the release does not establish that the whole authorization has been sold or used to acquire SOL.
CHAD's stated annual dividend rate is currently 13% on a $10 stated amount, or $1.30 per share annually at that rate. Payments depend on declaration. The figure is not a guaranteed return for someone purchasing the security at a different market price.
The distinction matters because a financing instrument and the asset it helps fund have different claims on a business. Selling preferred shares can supply capital without an immediate common-share issuance, but it introduces its own dividend terms and obligations. Calling that capital free, or treating it as identical to buying SOL directly, would conceal the structure investors are actually taking on.
Total holdings do not answer every shareholder question
A treasury can grow while the economic exposure attached to each common share changes differently. The amount of underlying assets is only one input; share count, financing costs and other claims on the company also matter. BitcoinInsider's recent report on Strategy's Bitcoin purchase and STRC buybacks illustrates another issuer using preferred capital alongside a crypto treasury, not an interchangeable investment.
DeFi Development's own dashboard cautions that SOL-per-share measures are management operating metrics, not standard accounting earnings or guarantees of equity performance. It says financing, operating expenses, taxes, staking activity and corporate actions can affect those measures. It also explicitly distinguishes the company from an ETF or exchange-traded product.
That warning helps separate two propositions often combined in treasury announcements: accumulating an asset and delivering a particular outcome to a shareholder. A higher token balance establishes neither a higher stock return nor a fixed relationship between the company's share price and the market value of its holdings.
What the update leaves open
The headline balance includes SOL equivalents. This release does not supply a complete position-by-position breakdown or establish that every unit is immediately available as unstaked spot SOL. It likewise does not quantify the division between purchases and other accumulation in the latest weekly increase.
The report is therefore an issuer-reported treasury checkpoint, not an independent audit of custody or a forecast for Solana's price. Subsequent filings and a detailed reconciliation would provide a firmer basis for judging funding costs, asset composition and growth on a per-share basis.
