The Punjab Traffic Police have trained 34 women to drive rickshaws under an initiative launched on the orders of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to promote women’s economic independence.
The training was conducted in collaboration with a private university at driving schools in Bahria Town and Manawa. The programme extends an earlier initiative in which the traffic police trained women to drive taxis and scooties.
City Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said the programme aims to create respectable job opportunities for women. He said the trained women can now take up rickshaw driving as a profession.
“We are not only providing training, but we are also empowering women so they can earn an independent livelihood,” he said.
The CTO added that men and women both play a vital role in the development and social fabric of society. He said the Lahore Traffic Police remain at the forefront of efforts to make women self-reliant, provide them with respectable jobs, and ensure their economic stability.
