KUALA LUMPUR: Bus Cap Bhd, Malaysia's first pure-play bus builder listed on Bursa Malaysia, has appointed Ma Xiyin as an independent non-executive director, effective Oct 16.
The appointment strengthens the board's expertise in new-energy technologies and electric mobility as the group expands beyond conventional bus manufacturing, the group said in a statement.
"We welcome Ma Xiyin to the Board of Bus Cap. Her experience across China's new-energy and electric mobility industries brings valuable perspectives at an important stage of our group's development," said Bus Cap executive director Bernard Ng Chong Yan.
Ma has more than 15 years of experience in business leadership, strategic investments and commercial development within China's new-energy and electric mobility sector.
She is currently managing director of the Aiduke business group, which has interests in electric vehicles, electric buses, charging infrastructure, battery and energy storage systems, renewable energy projects and new-energy components.
Ng said the transportation industry's next phase of growth would extend beyond vehicle manufacturing, with charging infrastructure, energy storage, technology and lifecycle services becoming increasingly important.
"Ma's commercial exposure to these areas is particularly relevant as we evaluate new opportunities in the new-energy commercial vehicle market," he said.
He added that Ma's experience would complement the existing board as the group evaluates international partnerships, technology localisation and potential business expansion.
The appointment follows Bus Cap's memorandum of understanding with BYD Malaysia Sdn Bhd on Aug 18 to explore a strategic cooperation framework for a Malaysia-based new-energy commercial vehicle platform.
The proposed collaboration includes establishing an electric bus assembly and manufacturing facility in Perak, alongside product localisation, sales, marketing, distribution and after-sales services.
Ng said the collaboration marked an important step in the group's transition towards a broader mobility platform.
