The caretaker Governor of Western Equatoria State, Rimbasa Daniel Badagbu, says his administration will focus on preparing the state for credible, free and fair elections scheduled for December 22 2026, while maintaining peace and stability.
Badagbu made the remarks today upon his arrival in Yambio, the state capital, following his appointment by President Salva Kiir.
He urged communities to exercise their democratic right to elect their leaders through the ballot, saying the country should move away from years of relying on appointments to fill leadership positions.
Badagbu said his administration would prioritize preparations for elections at all levels and ensure peace prevails across the state.
He also stressed that the electoral process would give citizens an opportunity to choose the leaders they want to represent them.
The governor’s remarks come as South Sudan prepares for the anticipated December elections, with peace, public participation and preparations for a credible electoral process remaining key concerns for authorities and communities.
