The German-Hungarian Joint Services Working Group held bilateral consultations in Budapest focusing on six topics, as part of a series of increasingly high-level bilateral visits that began in September. The delegation also inspected the Hungarian Defense Forces’ military equipment and training devices of German origin.
Eckart Meyer-Höper, Deputy Director General for Innovation and Cyber Affairs at the German Ministry of Defense, visited Budapest on October 12–13, 2026. The delegation was received by Colonel General Zsolt Sándor, Chief of the Hungarian Defense Staff, and Major General Zoltán Apáti, Director General of the Hungarian Defense Staff. The purpose and mission of the German-Hungarian Joint Services Working Group are to contribute to the development of a modern, sustainably operating military force with adequate deterrent capabilities by leveraging opportunities for bilateral cooperation.

The day continued at the Tata barracks of the Hungarian Defense Forces’ 25th György Klapka Armored Brigade, where the delegation members toured the unit’s simulation and training center under the guidance of Brigadier General Zoltán Németh, the brigade commander. At this training center—which is unique in the region—soldiers can practice operating and firing the PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzers and Leopard 2A7HU tanks in a virtual environment. Thanks to the interoperable systems, tank crews can even carry out their missions while supporting one another, in real time and under simulated conditions.
The demonstration was complemented by a presentation of the unit’s equipment, with particular emphasis on its drone capabilities, individual weapons, and other military equipment.
