The Michigan Wolverines are reportedly making a major change at quarterback ahead of one of their biggest games of the season.
Michigan is expected to start true freshman Tommy Carr over former five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood when the Wolverines host No. 6 Indiana on Saturday, according to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz.
The decision comes just days after Underwood was benched during Michigan's 21-18 victory over Penn State, raising questions about his future as the program's starting quarterback.
Underwood entered the season with enormous expectations after arriving in Ann Arbor as the nation's No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 class. However, the sophomore has struggled to find consistency under first-year head coach Kyle Whittingham.
Through six games, Underwood has completed 58.1% of his passes for 924 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions.
Those struggles reached a breaking point Saturday when Michigan's offense failed to score in the first half against Penn State.
Underwood completed just five of 11 passes for 43 yards and threw two interceptions before being replaced at halftime.
Carr immediately provided a spark, helping the Wolverines overcome a 3-0 halftime deficit.
The freshman completed five of seven passes for 47 yards while adding 36 rushing yards and a touchdown. His 12-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter ultimately proved crucial in Michigan's victory.
Following the game, Whittingham declined to announce whether Underwood would remain the starter. During Monday's news conference, the Michigan coach acknowledged that a decision had been made but refused to reveal his plans publicly.
"We're not going to tip our hand," Whittingham said, according to The Associated Press.
Now, multiple reports indicate Carr is expected to receive his first collegiate start against Indiana.
The quarterback change is particularly significant given Michigan's investment in Underwood, who flipped his commitment from LSU before signing with the Wolverines.

Carr, meanwhile, has deep family connections to Michigan football. His grandfather, Lloyd Carr, coached the Wolverines to the 1997 national championship, while his brother, CJ Carr, is Notre Dame's starting quarterback.
Michigan enters Saturday's matchup with a 4-2 record and an opportunity to make a statement against the defending national champions.
For Underwood, the reported decision represents a significant setback in a college career that began with considerable expectations.
For Carr, it presents an opportunity to take control of Michigan's offense against one of the Big Ten's toughest opponents.
