The next phase of enterprise software adoption is giving employees capabilities that once required dedicated engineering teams. AI tools can now help workers build applications, automate processes, and create agents. But each new capability introduces questions about data access, dependencies, and control.
For cybersecurity investors, this shift presents an opportunity to back companies building security infrastructure for a different kind of workplace.
TechCrunch was the first to report the news of Pluto Security’s emergence from stealth. It brought attention to a company that says it has already reached multi-million-dollar annual recurring revenue. It says it has secured more than 1 million endpoints globally.
Pluto announced $42 million in total funding and more than 40 enterprise customers. They include Oscar Health, Workato, Sixt, AlphaSense, and Fortune 500 organizations.
A Funding Round Built Around a Growing Need
Pluto’s latest financing is an approximately $34 million round led by Jump Capital. TLV Partners led its seed round, with participation from additional investors. The company plans to use the new capital to continue investing in its product, research, and expansion in the United States.
The company’s focus is the AI workspace. That is the environment created when employees use AI tools and build applications, agents, automations, and workflows.
Pluto aims to provide visibility, contextual risk assessment, and real-time control across those activities. That includes the supply chain surrounding them.
CEO and co-founder Shahar Bahat believes traditional security approaches struggle when employees adopt new tools faster than security teams can evaluate them.
“Security has traditionally been built around stopping things, but that model breaks down when the business is moving faster than security can evaluate every new tool,” Bahat said.
The company’s alternative is to understand what users are trying to accomplish and use that context to determine where controls are necessary.
Rather than making blocking the default response, Pluto aims to help security teams support legitimate work while limiting risky activity.
Why AI Changes the Endpoint
The traditional enterprise endpoint is becoming a place where employees do more than access approved applications. Tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cowork, Lovable, and Base44 allow workers to build applications and workflows without traditional development teams.
Those activities can involve skills, extensions, packages, MCPs, models, and other dependencies. Pluto says employees across its customer base are using hundreds of supply chain components while building thousands of applications.
Its platform combines endpoint visibility, contextual analysis, and real-time enforcement. Security teams can block malicious skills and restrict unsafe agent actions. They can prevent access to sensitive data or credentials without interrupting legitimate work.
For enterprises, the challenge is to understand not only which tools employees use but also what those tools can access and do. Pluto is positioning its platform around that broader picture of AI-related activity.
Distribution as a Competitive Consideration
Pluto’s strategy extends beyond its software. The company has developed a community-driven, inbound go-to-market approach. It combines its product with security research and free resources.
Its Plutonium AI supply chain security hub is powered by proprietary RisksDB. It helps security professionals assess risks across components such as skills and extensions. Pluto says thousands of security professionals use and contribute to the resource.
Saaya Pal, partner at Jump Capital, pointed to Plutonium when explaining why the firm backed the company.
“Pluto has built a fundamentally different GTM engine for cybersecurity,” Pal said. “The clearest example is Plutonium, their AI risk database: there was no good public data on what AI tools are actually doing inside enterprises, so the team built it and gave part of it away.”
Pal said hundreds of practitioners use the resource every week. She said most of Pluto’s pipeline now comes inbound.
She also emphasized the importance of solving distribution early, before it becomes more difficult to build into a company’s operating model.
The People Behind the Company
Bahat founded Pluto with Tal Ofer Regev and Gil Maman. Their backgrounds span Microsoft, Palo Alto Networks, Bridgecrew, and Israel’s Unit 8200.
Bahat previously held senior cybersecurity leadership roles at Microsoft and Palo Alto Networks. Bahat is a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree.
Regev previously served as vice president of research and development at Palo Alto Networks, managing more than 150 people.
Maman spent more than six years in Israeli Military Intelligence in technical leadership roles. They covered advanced cyber research and security engineering.
Pluto has grown to more than 50 employees across the United States and Israel.
Its investors include Jump Capital, TLV Partners, Skinos, AlphaDrive Ventures, Ansa Capital, MTF and Ariel Maislos. They also include Yevgeny Dibrov and Nadir Izrael of Armis, and Slavik Markovich of Descope. Others are Asaf Ezra of Andreessen Horowitz, and Sharin Fisher Dibrov and Idan Tendler of Vine Ventures.
A Market Still Taking Shape
Rona Segev is co-founder and managing partner at TLV Partners. She said Pluto offers security teams a way to understand AI activity and respond precisely rather than simply blocking innovation.
“What stood out to us about Pluto was a fundamentally different approach to a rapidly growing problem,” Segev said. “As AI reshapes how people work, Pluto gives security teams a way to understand what’s happening and act with precision, rather than simply blocking innovation.”
Pluto’s next phase will focus on product development, research, and U.S. expansion.
Its reported revenue, endpoint coverage, and enterprise customer base provide a starting point for that effort. Its longer-term opportunity will depend on how organizations adopt AI tools. It will also depend on how much visibility and control they require over the work those tools enable.
