The LSU Tigers entered the 2026 college football season under the supervision of one of the most accomplished offensive coaches, Lane Kiffin. The head coach has developed a reputation for his coaching abilities and earlier established himself as an accomplished offensive coach.
Fans were expecting a lot from Kiffin and the LSU Tigers, but unfortunately, the team has not been able to deliver its best performances.
Ex-LSU DT Questions Lane Kiffin’s Identity Crisis
In a recent episode of “Mike Drop with Mike Asti”, former LSU defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko questioned Kiffin’s approach as the Tigers fell to a disappointing 4-2 record and said:
“Within just the football team, there should be no reason why LSU shouldn’t be 10-2. Lane Kiffin, I’m looking directly at you. You need to decide for yourself if you want to be Nick Saban or if you want to be Vince McMahon. But you can’t do both. If you want to be this villain, if you want to create this villain identity, okay, then do that and fully commit to it. If you want to be Nick Saban, fully commit to it. But you, Lane, you have an identity crisis. You can’t decide what you want, and I see that product on the field.”
“It doesn’t look like LSU. People don’t respect LSU out there. Did you see Stein after Kentucky scored? He did this. You know what that means? It means he doesn’t respect LSU. He doesn’t respect the LSU Tigers. Nobody in the SEC fears LSU. That is my problem. When I got to LSU, when the OGs came before me, LSU was this breeding ground of great football, feared physicality. You think about LSU, you think about LSU, you think about the fighting Tigers, the fighting Tigers. But now when I see LSU, I think of the LSU content Tigers. Oh, the social media team’s working overtime now. You got your nephew blowing the fire extinguisher. Oh, you got all these celebrities. Cool. You’ve healed the optics of what Brian Kelly left for you to patch up. But let’s not forget, we brought Brian Kelly here to win. And what was Brian Kelly’s biggest flaw as a coach? Couldn’t win the big ones.“
The real truth about LSU. They fired a coach who couldn’t win the big games to go and hire a guy who can’t win the big games. Oh but “LSU parade grounds is like Mardi Gras every Saturday!” There is zero leadership right now at Louisiana State University and that’s the truth. pic.twitter.com/DmW2BJapUg

Kiffin is known for his outspoken personality and social media presence, but his on-field performance has yet to consistently deliver the results fans expect. Fehoko’s comments highlight the concerns surrounding the team’s identity and its ability to compete at a high level.
The organization will have to analyze what went wrong and demonstrate that it can compete against strong opponents in the Southeastern Conference.
It will be interesting to see how the head coach responds to the criticism and what steps he takes to improve the team’s performance.
The pressure on Kiffin is likely to increase if LSU continues to struggle against competitive teams. With expectations high among supporters, the head coach will need to find ways to improve consistency and ensure that his players remain focused on their goals. The Tigers have talented players, but their performances must reflect the quality and ambition associated with the program.
The coming games will provide an important opportunity for LSU to prove that it can overcome its early setbacks and restore confidence in the program.
