Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz fell ill during his side’s 1-1 stalemate with Stellenbosch on Tuesday night. Can you blame him?
Kaizer Chiefs stumble against Stellenbosch again
A 1-1 draw isn’t the worst result in the world, but Chiefs have now drawn five of their last six Betway Premiership matches. It’s a stretch to suggest they were even in the title race in the first place, but you’ve got to think that they definitely aren’t in it now. They trail champions Orlando Pirates by eight points after just eight matches on the new campaign. Chiefs haven’t won any of their last four meetings with Stellies, losing the three that preceded last night’s stalemate, during which coach Fernando Da Cruz fell ill and had to be attended to by doctors.
Naturena injury news
Striker Flavio Silva is back in training alongside Khanyisa Mayo, who has recovered after a hernia operation. 21-year-old Langelihle Phili is also nearing a return after a serious ankle injury he sustained in late August during training. Phili could return towards the end of October, but the technical staff won’t rush the exciting winger back. He missed the clash with Stellies, as did Lebohang Maboe. Bradley Cross returned against the Winelands side, but Thabiso Monyane picked up yet another knock. Young attacker Luke Baartman was an unused substitute, while Flavio Silva, Ethan Chislett, Asanele Velebayi, Kabelo Nkgwesa and Thulani Mabaso were introduced off the bench. Mduduzi Shabalala scored the Chiefs goal, assisted by Reeve Frosler.
Chiefs XI vs Stellies: Leaner; Monyane, Miguel, Moloisane, Cross; Frosler, Mthethwa; Vilakazi, Shabalala, Mako; Duba.
Subs used: Flavio Silva, Ethan Chislett, Asanele Velebayi, Kabelo Nkgwesa and Thulani Mabaso
