PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is investigating the creation and spread of content allegedly insulting His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, on Threads.
In a statement today, MCMC said it had contacted platform provider Meta following the circulation of an edited image of Sultan Ibrahim containing insulting elements.
"Following this, the content was taken down, while the account involved was blocked from being accessed," it said.
MCMC said further action could be taken if any laws were breached, including the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
The commission said it would continue working with platform providers to ensure appropriate action was taken under community guidelines and applicable laws.
MCMC advised the public against uploading or resharing the content to prevent further spread.
The public can submit complaints through the reporting function on Threads, the MCMC complaints portal at https://aduan.mcmc.gov.my or police.
