The Kwankwasiyya Movement has called on the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to consider legal action over the exclusion of its Kano State governorship candidate, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, and his running mate, Mustapha Rabi’u Kwankwaso, from the list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The movement urged the party to submit all relevant documents to the electoral commission and pursue the available legal and administrative procedures to address the omission within the period permitted by law.
In a statement issued on Sunday, its spokesperson, Dr Habibu Saleh Mohammed, appealed to members and supporters to remain calm while the party worked to resolve the matter through lawful channels.
According to the movement, information available to it indicated that Gwarzo had registered with the NDC within the stipulated timeframe.
It also said it was unaware of any court case or judicial order that could explain why the candidate and his running mate were missing from INEC’s published list.
The movement consequently called on the commission to clarify the circumstances surrounding their exclusion.
The statement referenced Section 32(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, which the movement said provides a 14-day period for a political party to notify INEC in writing, with an accompanying affidavit, if the name of its nominated candidate is missing from the published list.
It advised the NDC leadership and the lawyers representing the candidates to examine the provision and determine the appropriate steps to seek a correction.
The movement also urged the party to compile relevant records, including evidence of registration within the prescribed period, candidate nomination documents, submitted particulars and official acknowledgements.
“We urge the NDC to ensure that all necessary documents, including evidence of timely party registration, candidate nomination, submission of particulars and relevant acknowledgements, are assembled and presented to INEC alongside any required affidavit,” the statement said.
It further asked the party’s legal team to establish the applicable deadline and take prompt action to safeguard the candidates’ interests.
Movement Calls For INEC’s Explanation
Kwankwasiyya said INEC should address the matter transparently if its records confirmed that the candidates had fulfilled the relevant requirements and their exclusion resulted from an administrative error.

However, it stressed that it would not prejudge the commission’s official response or the outcome of any potential court proceedings.
“Our confidence rests on the importance of due process, the presentation of verifiable evidence and the lawful remedies available to the party,” the statement added.
The movement also cautioned its supporters against confrontation and the circulation of unverified claims while the issue remained unresolved.
It said it would continue to monitor developments and provide updates based on confirmed information.
Kwankwasiyya concluded by urging INEC to explain the omission without unnecessary delay and encouraging the NDC to pursue all available remedies within the legally prescribed period.
