Admit it. You’ve been dying for someone to wipe the smug smirk off Idris Nazir’s (Junade Khan) ha face in Coronation Street. Well, today is your lucky day.
The unscrupulous businessman has manipulated, charmed and bullied his way around Weatherfield ever since he rocked up in a flashy car.
He wrapped the usually hard-faced and no-nonsense Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) around his little finger, getting into bed with her and a business sense… as well as a physical one.
Idris is not good for our Lee either. He’s brought out her ruthless side.
No wonder. Idris is plenty ruthless himself. He pressured his cousin Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) into handing him majority share control of Speed Daal by dropping the bombshell that he is actually her uncle – a family secret that Alya’s gran Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) had always kept under wraps.
Not only is he a shrewd businessman, he’s a slumlord too. This was proven when the property he was letting to Abi Webster (Sally Carman-Duttine) resulted in her son being hospitalised due to black mould.
Instead of taking accountability, he had his little minion Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) kidnap and threaten the landlord.
Then let’s not forget the time he put Ollie Driscoll (Raphael Akuwudike) at risk just to win a poker game with a gangster.
His latest less-than-honest venture involves trying to strongarm Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) into selling the Bistro at a discount price by destroying their business with dodgy reviews.
Why? To carve out his own little empire on the Cobbles, with Leanne by his side. However, every adversary Idris has faced on the street have one thing in common.
They’re not Carla Connor-Swain (Alison King).
Weatherfield’s original Queen of The Underworld has knows a wrong’un when she sees one – she’s married one or two of them.
In next week’s trip to the Cobbles, Idris is going to bark up the wrong tree when he shows an interest in adding Carla’s beloved Underworld to his property empire.
But this time, the mercenary property tycoon might have bitten off more than he can chew…
On the street, Carla and Idris don’t exactly get off on the right foot when she chews his ear offparking too close to her car.
Idris turns on the charm but Lisa (Vicky Myers) senses that Carla doesn’t like him. Clearly Lisa’s finely tuned detective skills are just as sharp as ever.
That doesn’t deter Idris though, when he tells Leanne that with the Bistro deal off the table, he might focus on buying the factory instead. Leanne warns him that Carla will never sell up. But Idris loves a challenge…
In the factory, Carla confides in Lisa that the latest sales figures are terrible. When Lisa points out that they can live off her police salary if necessary, it’s a real blow to Carla that she’s struggling to provide for her family.
In the Rovers, Idris hears the pair talking about the factory problems and interrupts, suggesting that she should rebrand the business.
This goes down like a cup of cold sick with Carla, who sends the smooth-talker away with a flea in his ear.
As Idris slinks off, Lisa’s amused. But it looks like Carla’s made an enemy.
Watch out, Idris…
