Few Kenyans who saw that 2014 photo of Linda Okello in her traffic police uniform could have imagined where she would be a decade later.

What followed that viral moment was a string of professional setbacks, including demotion and an eventual exit from the National Police Service.
But Linda, who relocated to the United States around 2020, has spent the years since building something far more substantial than a police career.
What investments has linda Okello made?
Her most visible investment back home is a two-storey, six-bedroom mansion in Kenya. The property sits inside a walled with servants' quarters and two main entrances.
Okello has said the project cost roughly KSh 7 million, partly funded through loans, and was designed to free her from paying rent while giving her a permanent base in Kenya.
She also commissioned a bungalow for her parents in Homa Bay, a single-level home featuring blue and beige exterior paint, a modern roof, and a wheelchair-accessible ramp.
Linda Okello's growing US Property portfolio
Across the Atlantic, her South Carolina home is a white residential property with a driveway, backyard, wooden fencing, and a porch lined with potted plants.
Inside, wooden floors run through a spacious living area fitted with reclining seats.
In March 2024, she added a second property in the same state, a two-storey house with a double-door garage, manicured lawn, and grey siding with white trim.
After that purchase, she joined the Landlord Association of South Carolina and announced plans to rent it out for additional income.
Her appetite for land has also extended to Kisumu county, where she has acquired two plots in the hilly Riat area overlooking Lake Victoria.
Okello has described the location as a potential retirement destination and noted that the land would also benefit her daughter, Avril.
In Mombasa, an earlier apartment investment in the Buxton area remains part of her portfolio, with plans to eventually develop a three-bedroom villa with views.
Property is only part of the picture. Okello runs a car-hire business in South Carolina.
She aims to grow the fleet to around five cars as a source of passive income. On the professional side, she graduated from Arizona State University and now works as a private behavioural therapist.
Earlier estimates placed her net worth at approximately KSh 40 million, with her US holdings making up the larger portion.
For someone who once faced workplace scrutiny over a photograph, the portfolio she has assembled across Kenya and the US tells a very different story today.
