KATHMANDU, Oct 15: Gunjan Shah Thakuri’s appointment to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) board was revoked just nine days after the National Sports Council (NSC) nominated her to the post.
NSC Member Secretary Ram Charitra Mehta said the decision was made for technical reasons, adding that nominees to other sports bodies had also been recalled.

“We have recalled nominees from other sports bodies as well due to technical reasons, not just Gunjan,” Mehta said.
CAN’s statute allows the NSC to nominate two board members. Thakuri was appointed to replace Chhumbi Lama after the latter was recalled following the formation of a new government.
However, the Sports Development Act, 2020, removed the requirement for two NSC representatives on sports associations’ executive committees, although CAN’s statute still allows the council to nominate two members.
Thakuri’s appointment had drawn criticism over concerns about her lack of expertise in cricket policy and sports management, renewing questions about the discrepancy between CAN’s statute and the law.
