Prasidh Krishna has been picked in India's squad for the two-match Test series in New Zealand, but his participation in the preceding ODI series is subject to fitness clearance. Rishabh Pant has also been named in the Test squad, subject to fitness clearance.
Jasprit Bumrah will not be part of the ODI squad, but will return to lead the attack in the Test series, which begins with the first game in Wellington on November 19.
As part of the broad plans drawn up earlier this year by the the India's think tank, comprising selectors and Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir, it is learnt Bumrah's workload would be managed to ensure he would be fit to play the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home early next year and the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be played in Africa in October-November next year.
Bumrah last played in the Asian Games in Japan, where India won the gold medal. He is currently at home in Ahmedabad doing his routine training and is expected to head to the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for fitness drills before travelling to New Zealand.
Pant had suffered a side strain during the recent Irani Cup while captaining Rest of India, playing a sweep in the first innings. He was subsequently ruled out of the first two unofficial Tests against New Zealand A. He is expected to play the third unofficial Test in Lincoln from November 7 to November 10. Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Kamboj are also likely to play the third unofficial Test.
Cricinfo understands Prasidh's scans only revealed a left hamstring strain and not a tear. The fast bowler has spent the past two weeks doing S&C (Strength and Conditioning) work and recovery, along with massages and mobility drills. He was picked in the ODI squad for only the first three games (subject to fitness clearance).
Akash Deep was back in India's Test squad after proving his form and fitness in the Irani Cup and more recently in the first round of the Ranji Trophy for Bengal. Anshul Kamboj also returned to the Test side after making his debut in Manchester in July 2025. Mohammed Siraj and seam-bowling allrounder Nitish Kumar Reddy will lend more depth to the attack.
There was no room for Manav Suthar, who claimed a chart-topping 16 wickets in four innings in Sri Lanka. India picked two spin-bowling allrounders in Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar to go with Kuldeep Yadav.
After being sidelined from the Test series in Sri Lanka with a toe injury, B Sai Sudharsan returned to the squad, potentially as a back-up batter. He had recently returned to action in the four-day and one-day series against Australia A in Puducherry.
Iyer to lead India in fourth and fifth ODIs
While regular captain Gill will lead India in the first three ODIs, Shreyas Iyer will take over for the last two games. Kamboj has also been named in the squad for the first three ODIs.
