BATANG KALI: Two hikers who went missing while swimming at Lubuk Tupai Waterfall in Kampung Hulu Rening earlier today have been found dead.
The victims, identified as Muhamad Aidil Aiman Muhammed Bajuri, 23, and Muhammad Aidil Imran Mohd Nor Aziz, 21, were found about 5m underwater.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Datuk Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the first victim was found at 2.15pm, followed by the second 10 minutes later.
"Both victims were found at the bottom of the waterfall. They were pronounced dead at the scene," he said.
Ashrul said the department received an emergency call reporting that two members of a six-person hiking group had drowned while swimming at the waterfall.
He said firefighters from the Kuala Kubu Bharu Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by the Batang Kali volunteer fire brigade, were dispatched to the scene.
Rescue personnel faced difficulties reaching the waterfall as they had to trek up to 5km from the base camp in Kampung Hulu Rening.
Ashrul said the bodies of both victims were brought to the Port Rahsia campsite before being handed over to police.
