IMPHAL, Oct 22: The Communist Party of India-Manipur State Council and Students' Federation of India organised a sit-in protest and took out a march today denouncing the Government's failure to curb violence and restore normalcy.
CPI-MSC members and workers staged the sit-in in front of the Irawat Bhawan, and the SFI members and volunteers marched upto office of the Family Welfare Directorate.
A confrontation broke out between SFI volunteers and police near Johnstone Higher Secondary School.
Police picked up several volunteers in two vehicles.
Earlier, during the sit-in, CPI senior leader L Sotinkumar alleged that the incidence of violence has increased after the formation of the Yumnam Khemchand-led Government.
Kuki militants' attack on Naga and Meitei communities has continued unabated all the while the Government has failed to take even one concrete measure to protect the lives of civilians, he said.
The law and order situation in the State is deteriorating. If the leaders can't govern the State, then they should resign, he added.
