By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) and Barton Creek Archaeological Reserves are closed to visitors today because of elevated river levels.
The Institute of Archaeology of the National Institute of Culture and History (IA/NICH) made the announcement early Sunday morning, October 18.
All water related tour activities have also been suspended at the Nohoch Che’en Archaeological Reserve, a popular cave tubing destination.
All other archaeological reserves remain open for visitors.
The IA/NICH says it is monitoring conditions and will provide updates as necessary.
The closures come after days of heavy rain across the country, with an excessive rainfall warning issued by the National Meteorological Service.
