A 30-year-old Arizona man who ambushed his own dentist over a dental issue was killed by Mexican authorities serving his warrant, officials said.

Ernesto Rascón, a U.S. citizen, died during a confrontation with the Criminal Investigation Ministerial Agency and security forces over the murder of oral surgeon Amed de Jesús Preciado Hernández, 42.

According to authorities, the American opened fire on the officers at a home in the Ejidal 2 neighborhood in Agua Prieta, and the agents returned fire.

Rascón allegedly on Oct. 15 had gone to a dental office in Nogales, Sonora, where he had already received several treatment sessions.

He arrived in an agitated state and demanded to be seen without an appointment. The dentist was unable to see him, which allegedly angered the patient, who then decided to wait out in the parking lot.

Security camera video shows the brazen ambush, where Rascón stalked the doctor to his white truck and calmly shot into the open driver’s door at the dentist multiple times. Hernandez died in that parking lot.

According to investigations, the suspect blamed the dentist for leaving a tooth loose.

During the attempted warrant execution, the shootout resulted in two officers getting injured. One suffered a graze wound to the head and another had his left leg injured. Both were treated and released, officials said.

The suspect received first aid after the confrontation with Mexican authorities but died at the scene.

Rascon has had a criminal incident in his past, such as drug use and driving under the influence. Mexican authorities are coordinating with U.S. consular officials as the investigation concludes.
