A journey built on loyalty and political experience, in the demanding and often unpredictable arena of Nigerian politics, where alliances are tested, fortunes rise and fall and political storms can unsettle even the most established figures, Ibrahim Kabir Masari stands out as a man whose political resilience, loyalty and enduring relationships have earned him a distinctive place in the nation’s political landscape. The description, “The Pillar That Never Shakes,” is more than a complimentary phrase. It evokes the image of a political figure whose strength lies not merely in his proximity to power, but in his capacity to remain steadfast through changing circumstances, sustain relationships across political divides and contribute to the advancement of the people and causes he serves.
Masari’s political journey offers an opportunity to reflect on the qualities that make a political actor dependable: consistency, patience, strategic judgement, loyalty and the ability to bring people together. These qualities, rather than the noise of political contests, are what give a pillar its strength. His public profile is closely associated with his longstanding political relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His experience in party administration, including his service as Welfare Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), provided him with an understanding of party organisation, political negotiation and the importance of maintaining relationships among stakeholders.
His appointment to the Presidency in 2023 as Senior Special Assistant on Political Affairs, followed by his elevation to Special Adviser on Political Affairs in March 2026, represents a progression in responsibility and a public expression of the President’s confidence in him. Such confidence is significant in a political environment as complex as Nigeria’s. The work of a political adviser extends beyond attending meetings or issuing statements. It involves understanding the concerns of political actors, facilitating communication, managing competing expectations and helping the President maintain constructive relationships with party leaders and other stakeholders. These responsibilities demand discretion and judgement. A political adviser must know when to speak, when to listen, when to intervene and when to allow dialogue to take its course. The effectiveness of such a role is often measured not by public applause, but by the ability to prevent disagreements from becoming destructive conflicts.
The strength of a political pillar; a pillar is not defined by its height or outward appearance. Its importance lies in the weight it can carry and the stability it provides to the structure it supports. In political life, this metaphor captures the value of dependable leadership. A person may enjoy influence during favourable circumstances, but the real test of political character comes when the environment becomes difficult. Masari’s reputation as a trusted political associate of President Tinubu reflects the importance of consistency in political relationships. His journey from party administration to presidential advisory responsibilities illustrates how experience, political networking and sustained engagement can contribute to a position of greater responsibility. Yet the strength of a political pillar must not be confused with an absence of challenges. No political figure is immune to criticism, competing interests or changing circumstances. What matters is the ability to respond to such challenges with maturity, restraint and a commitment to the larger political and national interest.
The title “Waziri,” by which Tinubu has publicly addressed Ibrahim Masari, has added another dimension to his political identity. In northern Nigerian usage, the title traditionally carries connotations of distinguished service, leadership and counsel. Its significance in this relationship is best understood as a mark of presidential regard rather than a formal constitutional office. The description “Wazirin Tinubu” has consequently become associated with Masari’s growing visibility in the President’s political circle. Yet the importance of the relationship should not be measured merely by titles, proximity or public recognition. Its enduring value must ultimately be assessed through the quality of political counsel, the strength of stakeholder relationships and the contribution made to effective governance. A trusted political adviser occupies a sensitive position. Such an individual must understand the President’s priorities while remaining attentive to the concerns of party members, elected representatives and citizens. The task requires discretion, sound judgement, political maturity and the ability to communicate across competing interests. For Masari, the challenge is to ensure that the confidence reposed in him translates into constructive political engagement and tangible contributions to the administration.
Political mobilisation goes beyond electoral arithmetic. It involves listening to citizens, understanding their priorities and explaining government policies in ways that address their concerns. Ibrahim Kabir Masari has demonstrated political longevity. He has occupied increasingly important political responsibilities. He has remained involved in stakeholder engagement and political mobilisation. He has emerged as one of the personalities whose work is increasingly relevant to the political direction of the APC and the Tinubu’s administration.
Masari’s present position places him at the centre of this important responsibility. Recent reports have particularly highlighted his engagements with northern political and community stakeholders in connection with President Tinubu’s re-election efforts. Such engagements underline the importance of sustained consultation and political mobilisation as the 2027 elections approach. His task, therefore, is not merely to campaign. It is to help create the political architecture through which the administration’s message can reach the people, while ensuring that stakeholders remain connected to the governing party.
Finally, it is important to state that, in every political era, there are individuals whose contributions transcend the noise of political campaigns, party meetings and public appearances. They are the men who understand the intricate language of politics, appreciate the importance of consultation, build bridges where others see walls and remain steadfast when political circumstances become challenging. In contemporary Nigeria, Alhaji Ibrahim Kabiru Masari stands out as one such political personality. For his loyalty, strategic political engagement, organisational capacity and commitment to the political advancement of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ibrahim Kabiru Masari deserves serious consideration as Nigeria’s Political Man of the Year.
