Matiangi made the pledge on Sunday during a church service at Jesus Is Alive Ministries in Nairobi, where he attended alongside several elected leaders.
Bishop Wanjiru, who founded the congregation, recently declared her intention to contest the Nairobi governor seat under her Kenya Moja Movement Party.
Matiangi pledges to walk with Wanjiru
Addressing the congregation, Matiangi expressed personal commitment to Bishop Wanjiru's campaign, framing his support as more than a political endorsement.
"I'm urging you not to retreat. I want to walk with you, and I'm serious. You know the journey of this Nairobi and I want to hold your hand as you lead me on these roads and introduce me to the people of Nairobi," Matiangi said.
The former Cabinet Secretary described Bishop Wanjiru as the right person to lead Nairobi County and encouraged her to continue pressing forward with her campaign despite the challenges ahead.
Matiangi warns against political intimidation
During the same address, Matiangi levelled accusations against unnamed Nairobi politicians, claiming they had been using hired goons to intimidate rivals, disrupt political gatherings, and cause disorder inside churches.
He also used the occasion to appeal for unity within opposition ranks, arguing that the country was at a defining moment requiring collective resolve ahead of the 2027 General Election.
"There has never been a time in my memory when we have needed unity, togetherness and stability as we do in Kenya today. We are at a very critical juncture in history and must make decisions on how our country is going to move forward," he said.
Matiangi called on opposition leaders to remain focused on their shared objective of changing the government in the next election cycle.
Bishop Wanjiru's entry into the Nairobi governor race sets up a potentially competitive contest ahead of the 2027 polls, with Matiangi's endorsement adding significant political weight to her campaign within opposition circles.
