It's safe to say that Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers are having quite a stellar season. This team is undefeated, and they're playing at a high level.
Coming off the team's 23-17 win over the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football, Garrett Podell of CBS Sports is looking at the current class of quarterbacks and pointing out some special things about each one. For Purdy, he's doing something only one other San Francisco quarterback has done in decades.
Brock Purdy is making 49ers history with a remarkable start to the season
Purdy notched some cool history after the 49ers' game against the Commanders. He's the first 49ers quarterback since Hall of Famer Steve Young in 1998 to throw multiple touchdown passes in each of his first five games of a season.
"His NFL-best 149.1 passer rating in the fourth quarter also ranks as the third-highest passer rating in the fourth quarter through five games this century, per CBS Sports Research," Podell notes in the piece following Week 6 games.
Now, Purdy leads the NFL in touchdown passes with 13, passing success rate at 57.9%, expected points added per dropback at 0.37 and sack rate at 2.1%, per Podell. He's also second in the NFL in passer rating at 119.3.
Purdy is having a strong year, and it shows just how much this team relies on him. When he's been injured in the past, it's totally changed the dynamic of this team, and it showed up big-time on the scoreboard. Now, if Purdy stays healthy, there's really no reason why this winning streak can't continue.
