The 2026 WNBA Finals will crown a first-time champion as the Atlanta Dream look to convert their first of four Finals appearances into a title and the Golden State Valkyries look to become the fastest expansion franchise to hang a banner.
After both teams swept their semifinal series, it’s expected to be a tight battle.
Sportsbooks position the Valkyries as small favorites, with their -115 to -120 odds at major sportsbooks giving them the smallest of edges compared to the Dream’s +105 to -105 odds. This is nearly dead even before the series starts.

A deeper dive into the betting market reveals that oddsmakers believe the series is more likely to be decided in six or seven games than it is in four or five. BetMGM and DraftKings have priced six games in the +200 to +210 range and seven games at +225 compared to five games in the +260 and +270 range. A sweep for either side is in the +425 to +450 range.
In implied probability terms, that’s more than 30 percent chance it goes six or seven games compared to less than a 20 percent chance it’s settled in only four. These teams are well matched enough that we shouldn’t expect a sweep.
This aligns with the predictions that The Athletic’s WNBA team made when the series was set:
Annie Costabile: Dream in seven
Brian Hamilton: Valkyries in six
Chantel Jennings: Dream in seven
Marcus Thompson II: Valkyries in seven
It’s worth noting that Golden State did sweep the three-game regular-season series, but as our experts noted while making those predictions, it’s been more than three months since their last meeting on July 4. Both teams lost only five regular-season games after that, with the Dream sweeping both of their postseason series and the Valkyries losing just one playoff game (in overtime to the Dallas Wings).
