JazzCash, Pakistan’s largest digital financial services provider, has enabled consumers of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Electricity Department to pay their electricity bills through the JazzCash app and at JazzCash agents across the region.
The service removes the need for consumers to travel to bank branches or collection centres. For many households in AJK’s remote and hilly areas, that has meant long journeys and time away from work. Consumers can now pay their bills from their mobile phones, or over the counter at their nearest JazzCash agent without needing a smartphone or a bank account. The launch adds to examination fee payments for the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) AJK, which are already available on JazzCash, bringing more of the region’s essential public payments onto a single platform.
Commenting on the launch, Arif Chaudhary, Head of Public Sector Partnerships at JazzCash, said: “For families across AJK, paying an electricity bill has often meant a long journey to a bank branch or collection centre. By bringing these payments onto JazzCash, through both the app and our agent network, we are making essential public services accessible to people wherever they live. Working with the Government of AJK, we will continue to digitise more of the payments that citizens rely on every day.”
Muhammad Tayyab, Secretary, Energy and Water Resources, Government of AJK, said: “This collaboration makes it easier for citizens across Azad Jammu and Kashmir to pay their bills, particularly in areas where banking services are limited. Digital payments save residents time and travel, and improve the efficiency of public service delivery.”
The launch reflects JazzCash’s commitment to supporting the Prime Minister’s vision of a cashless economy. By bringing public service payments onto digital channels and extending access through its nationwide agent network, JazzCash is working with federal and provincial governments to reduce reliance on cash, improve transparency in public payments and bring more Pakistanis into the formal financial system.
