A scene during the football match
Barcelona produced a strong second-half display to defeat Galatasaray 4-1 in Istanbul, with Anthony Gordon scoring his first Champions League goal for the Spanish giants.
The visitors initially struggled to cope with the intense atmosphere but dominated possession in the opening stages.
However, Galatasaray took the lead following their first meaningful attack, with Aleksey Batrakov finding the net after Rafael Leao’s cutback took a deflection off Joao Cancelo.
The Turkish side appeared to extend their advantage six minutes later when Baris Alper Yilmaz converted Victor Osimhen’s header, but VAR ruled out the goal for offside.
Barcelona responded before the interval as Cancelo restored parity in the 43rd minute, curling the ball into the bottom corner after Dani Olmo directed it into his path.
Hansi Flick’s side returned from the break with greater intensity, taking the lead five minutes into the second half when Fermin Lopez headed home Lamine Yamal’s cross.
Gordon made it 3-1 three minutes later, finishing confidently after Yamal showcased his close control to create the opportunity. The goal marked another milestone for the summer signing, who had scored his first goal for Barcelona three days earlier.
Substitute Karim Adeyemi completed the scoring, firing home from the left side of the penalty area after Gabriel Jesus redirected another Yamal cross into his path.
The result extended Barcelona’s impressive attacking record under Flick, with the club having scored 84 goals in 28 Champions League matches during his tenure.
Barcelona now have six points from their opening two league-phase matches, having beaten Feyenoord 5-1 in their opener. They will travel to France to face Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, October 20.
Galatasaray, meanwhile, will seek their first victory of the campaign when they visit Lille on Wednesday, October 21, having previously lost 3-1 to Sporting CP.
