TUMPAT: The sister of Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) officer Norhazwani Ibrahim, who was killed last week, is expected to receive RM500 in monthly assistance to help care for the victim's two young daughters.
Kelantan Social Welfare Department director Che Samsuzuki Che Noh said the aid would be provided under the Foster Child Assistance scheme, which allocates RM250 per child each month.
However, he said the assistance could only be disbursed to Marliza Ibrahim, 48, after the court officially granted custody of the children to the victim's family.
"We will expedite the process once the court has decided on the custody arrangements," he told reporters after visiting Norhazwani's family in Kampung Telaga Lanas.
Che Samsuzuki said an initial assessment by the department's counsellors from Tumpat and the Kelantan headquarters found that the victim's two daughters, aged five and six, could be placed under Marliza's care.
He said Marliza had agreed to look after the children, and the victim's family had also supported the arrangement.
"We will closely monitor the children's welfare and assess whether the family needs further assistance.
"We will also provide immediate aid through the department's emergency assistance fund, along with essential supplies and items needed by the children," he said.
Meanwhile, Norhazwani's elder brother, Amran, thanked the department for its assistance.
"We will use the money for my two nieces' future. Both of them will be enrolled in preschool in Pengkalan Kubor," he said.
Norhazwani was allegedly murdered by her husband at their home in the KLIA quarters in Nilai, Negri Sembilan, last Thursday.
She was reportedly stabbed twice in the left abdomen and once in the right cheek.
The suspect surrendered to police shortly after the incident and was remanded for seven days to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
