He said the party was now waiting for an official decision from Bersatu’s central leadership and the PAS assemblymen.
KANGAR: Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah has been suspended from Bersatu for two party election terms, with the disciplinary action taking effect on Oct 13.
Bersatu Perlis chairman Izizam Ibrahim confirmed the suspension, saying the letter notifying Abu Bakar of the decision was issued last week.

However, Izizam denied being responsible for circulating the letter, which surfaced on social media earlier this week.
“The letter was issued last week, but I was not the one who circulated it. The Menteri Besar is also aware of the suspension,” he was quoted as saying.
He added that the party was awaiting an official decision from its central leadership and the PAS assemblymen.
The letter, dated Oct 14, was signed by Bersatu Disciplinary Board chairman Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan. It informed Abu Bakar, who also heads the party’s Kangar division, of the disciplinary action.
According to the letter, the board decided at a meeting on Oct 13 to suspend Abu Bakar’s membership rights for two party election terms under Clause 22.5 of the Bersatu constitution.
The decision followed alleged breaches of Clause 9.1.4 of the party constitution, as well as its Code of Ethics and Conduct.
During the suspension, Abu Bakar has also been removed from all party positions and prohibited from issuing statements on behalf of Bersatu.
The letter stated that he could appeal against the decision to the party’s Appeals Board within 14 days of the notice being issued.
