A 36-year-old employee of a jewelry store on the holiday island of Rhodes told police he had taken 52 gold rings worth 100,000 euros to change their prices but failed to return them. He later admitted the theft and handed over the jewelry, which was returned to the store owner.
The incident occurred on Saturday at a jewelry shop in south Rhodes, when the employee allegedly removed a tray containing the 52 rings from the store.
The disappearance was discovered the following day during a routine inventory check, when staff found that the tray of gold jewelry was missing.
The store reported the theft to police on Sunday afternoon, prompting an investigation. Police identified the 36-year-old employee as the suspected perpetrator.
On Tuesday afternoon the man admitted taking the rings and surrendered them to police. The jewelry was subsequently returned to its owner.
