As Knicks fans lined up outside Extra Butter’s Lower East Side location clad in orange and blue jerseys, NBA champion OG Anunoby made his way into the New York City sneaker store on Friday with his signature quiet humility on display. The athlete was on site for the launch of the Skechers shoe he wore during a moment that perhaps made Madison Square Garden get louder than ever before: his “tip-in” from Game Four of the finals.
The Skechers SKX Nexus NYC Blue colorway is available exclusively at Extra Butter for a two-week run, following a limited-edition drop from Skechers.
The basketball sneaker, which started out as a player-edition style for Anunoby, is instantly recognizable as a tribute to the Knicks with its bold blue upper and orange laces. But it carries even greater significance for Knicks fans beyond its color palette.
Anunoby became a New York legend in these shoes when he bounded across the court to tip in Jalen Brunson’s missed three-pointer at the end of Game Four of the finals, cementing an astounding 29-point comeback and a pivotal win against the San Antonio Spurs to take the series to 3-1. With the biggest comeback in NBA finals history, the Knicks were one step closer to securing the championship and breaking a 53-year drought.
Anunoby wearing the shoe for such an iconic shot marked a landmark moment for Skechers as it makes its name in the performance space.
“From a marketing perspective, the seminal moment in Game Four when it he tipped it in kind of validated all the hard work that our product design and development team has done,” Chase Sullivan, vice president of performance at Skechers, told FN at Extra Butter.
“For us, performance sports is comfort that performs, and we’re a brand that emanates comfort but at the same time performs. And that tip-in represented an amazing seminal moment for the brand, and we’re just super proud to be able to celebrate that here as the ring ceremony is coming up. We’re ready to kick off the season, it celebrates New York, it celebrates the Knicks, it celebrates OG.”
Vice president of product development Chase Greenberg said, “I think that there’s going to be plenty of iconic moments for OG. Obviously, we know his capabilities and his skills and his impact that he has with the team.”
As for the future of Skechers’ partnership with Anunoby, which includes his yet-to-be-unveiled signature shoe, Sullivan said, “He is this incredible person on and off the court. He represents our brand so well in so many ways, that’s why it’s amazing to have such a partnership with him. And just the person he is, and the humble nature of him, I think it’s eminent in what Skechers represents, too. I think our partnership is off to a great start and there’s going to be more great things to come in the future.”
Fittingly, purchasing the NYC Blue shoes at Extra Butter comes with a T-shirt reading “In the Knick of Time,” many of which Anunoby signed at the store alongside sneakers, jerseys and the like. He also revisited his August 2026 Footwear News cover, gamely posing with the magazine in a meta moment as the SKX Nexus was featured on the cover and surrounded him in-person.
“Being a champion and seeing how much the title meant to the city and fans in New York has been fun,” Anunoby said in the interview this summer. “I’ve had countless people stop me to just tell me thank you.”
