The Ogun State Police Command, in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, have arrested three secondary school students during a suspected cult initiation in Owode-Yewa.
The command spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, told journalists on Friday that one suspect is 12 years old, while the other two are 18.
Mr Babaseyi said the operation followed intelligence on Thursday about a planned cult-related activity tagged “Kito Day” involving students from different secondary schools in the area, prompting the divisional police officer to deploy detectives to the scene.
Mr Babseyi said, “The Ogun State Police Command has foiled a suspected cult initiation in Owode-Yewa, arresting three students aged 12, 18 and 18 following timely intelligence about a planned cult-related activity tagged ‘Kito Day’ involving students from different secondary schools in the area.
“Acting on the information received on 22nd October 2026, the Divisional Police Officer, Owode-Yewa, swiftly deployed a team of detectives in collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria to the scene.
“The operation led to the arrest of the three suspects and the recovery of one English axe, two knives, one short cutlass, one rubber toy gun and a school bag.”
Mr Babaseyi said the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Friday for further investigation and possible prosecution.
